A hopper is a component in modern milling machinery that is shaped like an upside down pyramid. Olives that are harvested are placed into the hopper prior to grinding. The hopper has a feeding mechanism that draws the olives into a channel filled with water to wash them. After the initial washing the olives are then fed into an escalator up to the grinder. The escalator is tube shaped and has water jets in it that spray the olives as they go up to the grinder.
